Quis est, quod ibi homo vult dolere luctuosa et tragica, quae tamen pati ipse nollet.

Summer 2007

UGANDA: This team of 12 returned to Jinja, Uganda, to work with partners and friends, George and Stella Muzaale & family, community development workers with YWAM. They helped with a construction project for additional school classrooms and had opportunities to share in worship in local churches. They spent much of their time playing and working with children in the Jinja community at the Dayspring Elementary school.
“I really don't want to leave.  Today is our last day with the kids and I am going to cry. I love them and I have gotten so close to some of them. America is so overrated, but God has blessed us as Americans more than we will ever know.  I really want to return to Uganda as soon as possible.”
Leaders: Gayle Luker: 2nd trip to Uganda; a nurse in Simi Valley. (Simi Presbyterian.)
DeDe Taylor: 6th trip to Uganda; led a team to Kenya. (Eastminster, Ventura)

HONDURAS: The team of 11 worked in the highlands of Honduras with ongoing partners, Orlando Japas             and Ken Vissers of Union Biblica (Scripture Union). Impact was invited this year to join UB staff in leading an international/bilingual “Open Camp” for non-believing Honduran children, ages 12-15 at the “Cerro de Luz” Christian camp. They were also invited to share the gospel message through music, drama, and crafts with school children in the cities and in rural areas.
Everything is going great here in Honduras! Well for the most part. Quite a few hard things have come up and that has stretched me a lot in my faith, but I am learning to surrender all to God, and that is so amazing!”
Leaders: Mike & Annell LaBarge: have both led many missions trips to Mexico; Annell led one to Uganda (Ojai Pres.)

CHINA: This team of 7 traveled to southwestern China to team up with other Chinese believers to serve with a ministry long established in Yunnan province in educational programs. Our team worked in rural areas outside Kunming, helping Chinese teachers of English to improve their English and teaching skills.
“[The Chinese teachers] say things to us like, ‘Before I thought I just had to teach, and if they didn't learn, it wasn't my fault. It was their problem. Now I know I must try to make my lessons interesting. I must care about my students and encourage them.’”

GULF COAST: We served with Urban Life Mission Relief in Biloxi, Mississippi, where we worked on one family’s house, Karen and her daughter. The problem, was they did not treat the mold and did not replace the electrical wiring.  She had to watch it all get ripped out again and start over.  We helped with the final drywall taping and mudding, sanding, and painting.
“They have been through a lot. With the rising floodwater, Karen and her daughter had climbed into a small ledge above the bedroom closet and laid down in this small space for 8 hours for the storm surge from the Gulf to reside.  An overzealous relief organization helped by rebuilding the home. The problem, was they did not treat the mold and did not replace the electrical wiring.  She had to watch it all get ripped out again and start over.”
Leader: Randy Guzik: 2nd trip to the Gulf Coast (Community Presbyterian Church, Ventura)
