Linjiang, China Eight adults traveled to China to work with an organization that serves the needy of Linjiang, in northeast China, by providing food, medicine, clothes, school scholarships, and the love of the Body of Jesus Christ. The IMPACT team had the opportunity to distribute food and medicine to needy families in and around Linjiang, share music and testimonies with government officials and community members, spend time in schools teaching, sharing, and playing, and visit the future site of a church and orphanage that will be built through the organization. They were able to bring a young boy needing a prosthetic arm and leg to the States, get a contract signed for the church & orphanage, and even host a birthday party for 91 children. As the team worked, played, and prayed together, God knitted them tightly into a family.
Olosho-oibor, Kenya
The IMPACT 2000 Kenya Team was called into a different role than expected, for our friends in the area of the Ngong Hills were in their second year of a very significant drought. The beautiful hills bordering the Great Rift Valley that are usually covered with lush green vegetation were dry and brown. The money that would usually go toward some sort of work project was used to purchase over 14 tons of corn meal to give away. The team returned to work with the Maasai Christian Youth Fellowship (MCYF), a group of indigenous Maasai who share the Gospel with rural tribes in Kenya and Tanzania and run an outreach camp in Kenya on a hillside above the small community of Olosho-oibor. IMPACT and the MCYF have built some wonderful relationships as brothers and sisters in Christ over the last eight summers. The team relied on them to help distribute food, through churches, to those who needed it most. God taught the participants that His purpose is sometimes realized not through planned building projects, but rather through prayer, patience and fellowship.
Tijuana, Mexico
A team of 13 youth and adults packed themselves and their "stuff" into two vehicles and a trailer and journeyed to Tijuana where they were received warmly and enthusiastically by the members of their host church, Iglesia Bautista Conservadora Berea. The church has been a lighthouse for over 30 years in a residential area of Tijuana plagued by drugs and gangs. The main task was to help the church reach out to their community through a Vacation Bible School. The team was involved in a variety of activities – outreach to the surrounding neighborhoods, crafts, music, teaching, puppetry, recreation, worship services, medical assistance, and preaching. They also assisted with the church’s "mission church" in the Colonia Sanchez Taboada, a barrio on the outskirts of Tijuana. As they ate their final meal at the church, Pastor Manuel pulled out a handwritten thank you. With tears he shared from his heart how much he appreciated the team’s coming and how the church had benefited from their ministry. The team was privileged to serve Christ among them.
Belaya Tserkov, Ukraine
A group of six adults returned to Belaya Tserkov, Ukraine to work with God’s Hidden Treasures. This multi-faceted ministry helps the needy of Belaya Tserkov receive food, clothing, wheelchairs, and the hope found in Jesus Christ. In addition to this help, much of their time is spent in orphanages teaching children about God’s love. The IMPACT team joined with God’s Hidden Treasures to teach Vacation Bible School at the Boy’s Home, a facility for boys age 6-18, a home orphanage, and a cerebral palsy clinic in Belaya Tserkov. The team helped with the second annual wheelchair picnic in the park, helped size potential wheelchair recipients, and visited and interacted with some of the families this organization ministers to. The participants lived with Ukrainian families and had time to see some of the culture and history of the country.
